On September 5th, as part of the Amsterdam Fashion Week 2026 program, GOWTU had the honour and pleasure to team up with the Amsterdam Museum and ODE for an explorative talk about the evolution of streetwear in Amsterdam. Masta Lee's contributions to Dutch streetwear have been foundational for the culture, but the actual origins go back, way back before the term streetwear or an actual industry even existed. In a one-on-one conversation with Randy the two took a deep dive into the undeniable links to diaspora communities, pinnacle scenes and retailers, and how local phenomena grew into their global form. From the 80’s to how we know it today and leading up to the bigger question: (why) is it important to archive the culture? At the end of the talk Lee donated a rare garment to add to the Amsterdam Museum's collection.
