LOVE GOES is a collaborative project between GOWTU and Studio Wavelength, a bespoke fragrance brand founded by Gabe Jaffe and Andy McAlpine that is focused on scented candles and parfums created from a unique perspective: what if songs became fragrances? With that premise set, the idea for a theme, design and scent came quickly.
Behind Masta Lee's design
Music builds imagination and creative thinking. It helped me develop the habit of connecting sound to sight and colour, and sometimes even touch and smell. The first song that instinctively came to mind when speaking about candles was Janet's "That's the Way Love Goes", which became the heart of the project. The music, the words, the atmosphere, the amber-infused accords, it all just naturally clicked. I traced the audio waveform of the opening line "Like a moth to a flame, burned by the fire", and layered it in various colours to create an abstract pattern for the glass design. For the candle's scent we went with warm vanilla notes of santal, aged rum and soft precious woods. To complete the whole concept, Randy and I paid homage and created our own version of the song.
